A-Z Challenge Letter N for Nosy

Are you nosy? Do you find yourself having to be all up in everybody else's business? I know some extremely nosy people.  They ask about a million questions and are never satisfied with vague answers. I am a very open person. If you read this blog you would know I don't hide much. And if I don't volunteer certain info about myself, all you have to do is ask and I'll answer you.  I am often accused by The Husband and the kids of volunteering TMI (too much information) or over-sharing.  Believe it or not, I actually reign it in and censor myself, for their sake. Although I give out a lot of info about myself to others, I'm not nosy. I don't need to know what my neighbors are up to; I'm too busy trying to keep my own stuff straight. I mind my own business. The Husband, on the other hand, is closed up like a fist. He keeps his emotions locked up tighter than a death row inmate. He never volunteers even the most trivial information about himself to anyone, ever. But for some reason, he's nosy as all get out! Especially about what goes on in our neighborhood. We live in a very tight-knit community. Everybody knows everybody else. So if a car even turns down our street that "doesn't belong", The Husband is out of the house in a heart beat ready to take the license plate number down and/or start an interrogation! As usual, he is the exact opposite of me.

Which way are you? Do you over-share? Give out TMI? Are you nosy? Do you care what your neighbors are up too?

PS:  Faith and I have been experiencing some technical difficulties with the Internet lately. Also, we are quite convinced our lap top is possessed. Sorry if commenting is slow and our posts are out of whack. Not sure what's going on there!

I'm both private and not nosy. Although I did reveal some secrets today...

    1. I love it when you drop secrets!! Not sure what the heck has gotten into our lap top. It's off the charts annoying. Keeps dropping my comments and I'm half-way through a post and it cuts out. Arggh!

  2. The house next door to us is for sale, and every time someone views it, my husband's nose is to the window, checking them out. My nose is usually in a book and my mouth is usually asking him if he can wait until I'm at the end of a paragraph before giving me the scoop, which I don't even care about. :-) As of this little instant, I am your newest follower.

  3. I often over share, but at the same time am very private about some things. Same way with being nosy. There are some things that I will go to great lengths to find out and others (most actually) I could care less about.

    1. I don't know what makes some people so nosy. I never pry but people, even strangers, love to tell me their business. My brother is always astonished by this. He's like, Jen, why do people always look at you and decide to tell you their entire life story in five minutes? I don't know why, but they always do!

  4. I'm mostly private, and definitely not nosy. Though being a writer I probably should be :).

    1. Hi Damyanti! As a writer I am always people watching, looking for some new characters. Funny thing is I like to make up all my own information about them! That's more fun than knowing the truth sometimes.

  5. I hope your internet and computer get better soon. :( I think I'm kind of medium on both counts. I share stuff but not too much, and I don't go seeking other people's business but don't hide from it either. Maybe I'm just boring, haha.

    1. No way! You are not boring at all. I do care about people, I just don't like to get all up in their business. I have a friend who gets on the phone and asks about a thousand questions about me and what I'm doing what the kids are doing. Then she will ask stuff like, is the Husband home? And if I say no, she'll ask, well where is he? I crack up. Because I never ask him where he's going! I don't care. He always finds his way home- he's my husband not my dog. I don't keep track of him!!

  6. I would have qualified myself as "nosy-to-annoying" in years past. My mother was the master of nosy, in her small town. She could garner a life story in 15 min.

Nowadays, I just smile and walk on. If it's a baby, I have to stop, tell the parents how beautiful the child is, and walk on. I've changed.

    1. Oh, I always stop for babies. And puppies. But most people (even strangers) take one look at me and dump their entire life story on me. Maybe it's because they can tell it stays with me. I don't share other people's business, just my own!! Our town is quite small too- all kinds of stuff gets talked about. I don't believe any of it though, unless I get it straight from the source. By the time it gets to me, it's usually WAY blown out of portion. LOL

  7. I'm fairly guarded in what info I reveal, but my wife....oy vey....she's waaaaay much on the TMI. She's also has "nose trouble" (as my dad likes to term it) and is still a huge tattletale....even at age 45, lol.

Hope your internet gets sorted out soon :)

    1. Nose trouble! That's funny. I don't mean to over-share, it just spills out of my mouth sometimes. Especially if I'm nervous. Although on a positive note, I don't tell other people's secrets. That, I am good at locking up. I don't share private stuff about other people, ever. Like I said above, maybe that's why people confide in me right away they can tell I can keep a secret. And I don't like to gossip.

  8. I'm a bit reserved. I'll inquire, but if someone doesn't want to share, I won't push. I'm also like you, so absorbed in the crazy, I usually don't notice as much as I should. I've been working to change that for YEARS, but it's still a weakness. *shrugs*

    1. Hi Crystal!! It's not that I don't care about people, I do. I am a great shoulder to lean on, IF someone wants to share their problems with me. But I do not go around asking for their secrets and then sharing it with other people. That is not cool. Besides, I have too many problems of my own to deal with!!

  9. I'm quite a private person, both in real life and online. I probably reveal more about myself on my blog than in real life, though. In fact most of the people who I know don't even know I have a blog.

    1. Not everyone in my family or circle of friends knows that I have a blog either. I don't volunteer the info, only because my writing life is the one thing I don't really talk about with them. I would, however, tell them if they ask, but I don't volunteer much about it.

It's cool that you reveal stuff on your blog- writers in general I think find it easier to write down feelings than speak them a loud.

  10. Okay, I'm a mixed bag. If someone is say, moving onto our street, I will check them out. My hubs won't interrupt his scy fi watching to bother. But I'm not into dirt gathering and spreading. My town is small, like yours. If something bad happens to someone, they're likely a friend and that just depresses me. My hubs is the perfect person to tell a secret...he only half listens and forgets whatever he is told.

    1. Ha! I am like your Hubs. If I have on Scy Fi or am reading, the whole world around me disappears for awhile. That last line is perfect he only half listens and forgets whatever he is told! Ha. I call that selective hearing over here. The Husband always hears me when I call him to dinner, but not so much when I call him to take out the garbage!!

  11. Your husband sounds just like mine; closed up tight, but he's the first one to tell us what the neighbors are doing. Go figure.

    1. I wonder if it's a cop thing; know your surroundings? He is always noticing things I blow right past. For instance, he can look at someone and know exactly what they are carrying in their pockets- wallet, knife, any kind of weapon- it's kind of scary. Meanwhile, I'm oblivious!!

  12. Hi! I've been absent and decided to stop in and say hi to everyone and saw Faith is doing the A to Z! I love it :)

Good to see you are doing it, too. I had a blast doing it last year, but definitely couldn't handle it this time around. I will have fun seeing what everyone is doing, though :)

I share a lot about myself, but only if it doesn't matter. For things that are important to me, or emotional, I have a really hard time with sharing. I am, however, super nosy! I don't mean to be, but I'm just always curious about other people. I have to resist the urge to ask people a million questions sometimes.

Come back and visit again soon!!!
