Good News, Bad News

Here's some Good News/Bad News that's been happening over here at The Bird's Nest this week:

Let's start with the GOOD NEWS:
1. I went back to work.
2. My beautiful, 16 year old niece Holly, (who I adore), quietly wrote a YA Fantasy book this summer and surprised me on Monday with asking me to read/critique it. *Squee* Cue happy dancing! She wants me to mentor her. I could not be more excited.
3. Holly's book, "Mixed Blood" is good. Like, really, really good. So excited for all of the possibilities the wonderful world of writing has in store for her.
 4. All three of my daughters have been growing their hair for Locks of Love. Yesterday, they donated it! Check out their cute new hair cuts.

5. I lost three pounds!! Woot woot. (Doesn't sound like a lot, but for me, this is monumental)
6. Our garden is producing some seriously delicious Jersey Tomatoes!!
7. The Husband took the girls shooting with him. They all love to shoot and are great shots, but as it turns out, my youngest, (takes after her father) and doesn't miss. When he pulled her target, it had so many center mass perfect shots, it almost beat his!

Faith shooting.
That smile says it all.

My little sniper waiting patiently for her turn.  Can you say, GIRL POWER?
8. Check out this cool zombie pancake the girls made me for breakfast!
9. A new frozen yogurt shop opened up within five miles of my house. Their yogurt is creamy and delicious and they have every kind of topping you could possibly imagine. If you buy 5, you get your 6th yogurt free. Good news for my family of five!
10. Finally got in to see this uber specialist that had me wait listed.
Now for the bad news:
1. I went back to work.
2. I've had a  migraine for four  five days in a row! Nothing is worse than waking up and still having a head ache..
3. Went to see the uber specialist (I waited eight weeks to get in to see) only to find out Lab Corp screwed up my blood work. Again. Ugh. Starting to feel a little bit like a science experiment :(
4. My poor kitty was sick. All over the house. Boo.
My poor baby had a tummy ache.

5. This giant spider was in my pool, therefore, I was not. Hate em! Anyone know what the heck kind of spider beast this is?  UGH.

6. My refrigerator looks like a Russian supermarket. No milk, no bread, no meat. LOL I really need to get my butt to the food store.
7. I have no Friday Fact or Fiction post this week.
8. My house is a fast disaster.
9. Summer is almost over.
10. Still have lots of poundage to loose. My progress has been s-l-o-w. (Hmm,  this might have something to do with the new frozen yogurt place opening up..)

Leave me some of your good news :)  or bad news  :( from this week. I'd love to hear all about it. Oh, and please forgive me for not being around much to comment. Hoping to get back into the regular scha-wing of things, next week. Have a great weekend everyone!! ~Jaybird

  1. Oh God, that spider has just creeped me out for the rest of the day LOL! Sorry to hear about the mess up with your blood work. Hopefully they will get it sorted out fast!

On the plus side, there are so many good things on your list to balance it out - yay! :D Loving the zombie pancake!

    1. Thanks Kyra! Those zombie pancakes were good! The girls improvised and used strawberries for the "brains" yum. And yes, I always try and balance the bad news with the good. I am the type of person who always looks for the silver lining!

  2. Sorry about the cat vomit. The zombie pancake is awesome though! So are your daughters for donating their hair.
I've had a really, really good week so far!

    1. Yay for a good week Alex! Kitty is feeling much better. She was sick because she got into something she shouldn't have: a box of red Swedish Fish! Yuck. What a mess.

  3. I don't think that's a spider. Look around the pool for a spaceship because that thing is far from its home planet. Your girls are ADORABLE! You've already read my good news on the blog :). And I'm still on vacation so it's been a great week for me!

    1. That alien spider beast was huge! The picture above, is true to size. Ugh- and you know how I feel about spiders. It was a bad scene. I'm surprised the neighbors didn't call 911, cause I was screaming!

Speaking of screaming... oh my gosh, congrats! I am SO EXCITED for you!! This has been a great week for good news for you-indeed. What a special way to spend your vacation, I'd be celebrating big time.

    1. Aw- thanks Rach! I wish you lived closer too. Then, we could get together and hook our Husbands up! They have so much in common, I'm sure they would become BFFs in no time.

  5. Yikes!! That spider is scary.

Sorry your blood work was messed up. Hope you get to see specialist again soon. Also hope your head ache clears soon. You and your Kitty feel better.

Your girls are just adorable, bless them for donating their hair.

Yay for weight loss. You go girl! :D

That's so awesome that your niece wrote a novel, and wants you to critique it and be her mentor. I hope it really works out for both of you.

That's great that you're back at work, I hope it goes well.

    1. Thanks Clare! I am glad to be back to work (money in my pocket) on the one hand, but on the other, I'm beyond exhausted. Trying to look on the bright side of it though, and just be thankful.

I am super excited about my niece writing. Best day ever! I love spending time with her and this is a great fun way for us to bond. She is my sister who passed away daughter, so it's extra special for me to be able to share this with her. Makes me so happy!

Thanks for always commenting Clare- I really appreciate it.

  6. Your girls are adorable. And I love the shooting pics. Shooting is so fun.

That spider is going to give me freaking nightmare.

Yay on the three pounds. I'm only down 1 1/2 so I know that three is a lot! :)

Congrats on going back to work, if that's what you want to be doing.

    1. Thanks Melanie! My girls absolutely love shooting. Skeet, targets, bows, arrows, you name it, The Husband has them training with and/or on it. It's "their" thing. It's a pretty cool father/daughter bonding activity.

And that spider is my nightmare come to life! Ugh. Can't even begin to tell you how bad I freaked out.

Three pounds is worth celebrating, (to me) I'm happy I didn't GAIN three, right? LOL

  7. I hope that spider wasn't as big as it looked. I'm making slow progress losing weight too. But I convinced my husband to exercise - or at least that's what he's telling me.

    1. Hi Tonya! Yep- the spider was that big. Pretty much the same size as the picture. So gross.

Good luck on your weight loss journey. Getting myself motivated to exercise everyday is a true struggle, that's for sure. Even though it's slow going, I'm not giving up. I'm going to keep trying!

      Thanks for commenting-

  8. Yay for losing 3 pounds!

I love your girls. You already know I adore Faith, so now there are two more to add to the list :)

Bad news is I am in a craptastic mood this evening...good news is it's almost time for bed and I can re-group in the morning ;)

    1. Aw- thanks Kianwi. My girls are the best. I'm so glad they think about others before themselves. It's not something you can really teach, but awesome that they are already self-less.

So sorry you are feeling crap-tastic today. Hoping morning will bring you a new attitude and a much better day! *Hugs*

  9. Hey just checking out your blog and saw the pics I think that is a wolf spider, they are big, but not harmful to people.

And that is awesome about donating hair, I used to grow my hair out a lot and donate it to locks of love. Anyway good luck on the writing.

    1. Hey Brandon! Thanks so much for the follow! Welcome to the Bird's Nest.

I can't believe that spider is not harmful to people- cause I almost had a freaking heart attack just from seeing it in my pool! It had fangs. Fangs I tell you! Eww. Please forgive my being so melo-dramatic, but I'm totally arachnaphobic, if you couldn't tell. LOL

  10. That spider is ugly! Great lists.

Good news here - we decided to decorate the hall.
Bad news - after pulling up the carpet we ground to a halt!

How great your niece wrote a novel. My son started a Batman fanfic recently, and I was stupidly thrilled. Writing is awesome - good luck to her.

    1. Hi Annalisa! Thanks for commenting.

It's amazing how happy sharing the love of writing with my niece has made me. I can't stop smiling like an idiot.

I don't have any boys, but I think I would be "stupidly thrilled" to have a little Batman fanfic running around the house, for sure. LOL

      Thanks for commenting!

  11. Yay for your niece!! I hope she publishes it. That spider is scary!! I think it is a wolf spider. Not dangerous, unless you have a heart attack because it is so darn scary. I always joke that I'll suffer death by roach. Yuck!

    1. Hey Ciara- It's my hope she publishes her story too! It is my goal to be her cheerleader/support system, and a fabulous CP. I am going to do everything in my power to get her novel ready to pub. (It helps tremendously that it is already really good. She's a natural!) Woot woot.

      Thanks for commenting!

  12. Wow, so much good stuff. First, that's awesome about your niece. I love mentoring writers. Second, I have a garden also, and my tomatoes have not yet bloomed. Last, your cat looks almost identical to mine. It's eerie.

    1. Thanks Beer-You have an identical cat to mine? That's so cool because my cat is full of awesome. And, I'm absolutely stoked that my niece wants to be a writer- I am so relieved that what she wrote is good too, because that would be awful if I hated it. LOL

Sorry about your tomatoes, but ours are kicking it this year. My parents tomatoes got killed by deer and a fat ass wood chuck; they ate every single one of their plants.

  13. You have a tremendous amount of good news (which is amazing)! I was thinking the end of the summer is a good news/bad news thing for me because I love the time with my kids and the warm sun but I also miss being able to work at my normal pace.

  14. Lots of wonderful news! And what lovely daughters you have. I wouldn't go near a pool with that gigantic spider either! Keep working on losing weight. I'm in the same vote as you. If I'm lucky, I lose a pound a week, but it's been a half pound recently.

    1. Hey Christine- thanks. And congrats on your half pound. It's still a loss! It's been slow going with the weight loss for me, but that's the story of my life. Unfortunately, I think I will always be someone who wrestles with it. I have friends who eat whatever, whenever, and don't gain an ounce. It's quite irritating! LOL
